
Sue Murray is a dedicated and experienced child welfare professional with strong leadership and relationship building skills. She launched her now 22 year career with the Division of Family Services when she completed her undergraduate field placement with the agency working in the adolescent and permanency unit. Little did she know what started out, as an educational requirement would become her life’s work! Sue has held several positions during her time with the Division of Family Services, she spend a little over a decade working on the frontline as a case manager and eventually transitioned to Supervisor and then to Assistant Regional Administrator sharing her passion for engaging families and protecting children. Sue became the Administrator for the Office of Children’s Services. In this position, Sue managed statewide operations for the Division of Family Services. As the Divisions Operations Administrator, Sue led the regional offices across the state where frontline staff provide case management in child welfare investigation, treatment, permanency and foster care. In 2017, Sue was appointed Deputy Director of DFS.
Over her the years at the Division of Family Services, Sue has represented the Division on many workgroups, committees and practice Initiatives. She was a key participant in the Division’s Outcomes Matter initiative focused on enhancing practice and transforming lives. She co-chaired the Division’s Differential Response Initiative called FAIR (Family intervention and Response), which was a successful in implementing the Department’s first alternative response to allegations of abuse and neglect. She continues to oversee the project as the agency looks to expand the FAIR Model internally. Sue was also a Steering Committee and Co-site leader for the Federal Child and Family Services Review collaborating with federal partners from ACF and working closely with statewide review staff in completing Delaware’s first state run federal review. She represents the Division on the Department’s Safety Council, Department Policy Revision Workgroup, CAC Advisory Board, CQI Workgroup, and the Multi-System Healthy Action Committee. Sue’s focus continues to be on improving practice, improving outcomes to benefit both staff and families. Sue earned her Bachelor of Arts and Science from the University of Delaware with a concentration in Sociology and her Masters of Social Work degree from Delaware State University with a concentration in Children and Families. When she is not at work, Sue enjoys spending time with her husband and two children especially down at Bethany Beach enjoying the sand and sun. She is a native Delawarean and currently resides in Hockessin, Delaware strong leadership and relationship building skills.
