K-5 Early Intervention Program

The K-5 Early Intervention Program is a collaborative partnership between the Department of Education, local schools, and family service agencies to serve children and their families. It is our vision that every child in Delaware will have the opportunity to succeed socially, emotionally and academically. This will be accomplished by empowering families and strengthening the ties between the school, family, and community. The goals of the program are to improve student behavior, strengthen parenting skills, and reduce the number of families and children needing more intensive services from the Department.

Fifty-four school based Family Crisis Therapists (FCT’s) from DSCYF are assigned to designated elementary schools in thirteen school districts and three charter schools throughout the state.  The E.I. Program is voluntary. While principals, teachers, guidance counselors, nurses, and other school staff identify students and families for referral, it is the parents/caretakers who ultimately have the choice of whether or not to participate.
