Children’s Department Spotlights Youth in Foster Care Looking for a Place to Call Home
Each week throughout November, a Delaware child in foster care will be highlighted to raise awareness of National Adoption Month and help find a permanent placement for a child in need.
Wilmington, DE —On any given day, dozens of children in Delaware are looking for a permanent place to call home. In an effort to showcase the unique and diverse qualities of these children and link them with a loving and supportive family, the Delaware Children’s Department launched an online Heart Gallery in 2008. The gallery highlights two children or sibling groups each month through photos and a brief description. Since it was first launched in February 2008, 36 children have been highlighted and 16 have begun or completed the adoption process.
Nationally, November is recognized as Adoption Month. As part of the Department’s outreach efforts this year, a child in foster care who is currently available for adoption will be selected each week in the month of November as a Heart Gallery supplemental spotlight. By sharing their stories and their smiles with the community, the Department hopes to find each child a family who will love them and nurture their spirit.
Week Four: Messiah and Iyana
Messiah and Iyana are a beautiful brother and sister who would love to be placed in a home where they could be together. Right now, Messiah and Iyana are living in different foster homes, and they really enjoy the time that they have visiting together. Messiah is eight years old and Iyana is six. They are both active children who enjoy being outdoors. Messiah and Iyana do well academically in school; however, both kids have had some behavioral issues which are improving. Messiah and Iyana are children who could offer great deal to any family. However, more than anything, they need a family that can be committed to them. If you would like to make a difference for two wonderful kids while keeping very busy, these could be the children for you!
